Mom, When Was The Last Time You Danced?

by Queenie on August 12, 2010

Image of QueenieAs a woman you work, or have a business, and its so easy for you to find time for everything and everyone else except for yourself. As a mom, you work so hard to make sure that you are giving your child(ren) what they need, but its time to take a moment for yourself.  This is common amongst todays supermoms, so I say do something you haven’t done in a while and dance like there is no tomorrow. Question, when was the last time you saw someone dancing and they were angry, mad or down right unhappy? Its kinda hard to dance with negative emotions swirling around because  its something inherit in your body movement that allows joy, beauty, and laughter to rise to the surface. Truthfully, the power of dance allows you to shake off any worry, fear and doubt and helps you to just live in the moment. You deserve this moment for yourself. Dancing will rejuvenate your cells, help your blood flow, and will send light and love to those areas of your body that needs a divine and magic touch.  You don’t have to have go to a dance club, just turn on your radio, ipod, or computer and find your favorite song. A good one I’d suggest  is –I Got A Feelin, by the Black-Eyed Peas. Secretly, I personally love the song, Party in the USA by Miley Cyrus. Whatever you choose, let the rhythm flow through your body and simply live in the moment.

“To dance is to be out of yourself. Larger, more beautiful, more powerful. This is power, it is glory on earth and it is yours for the taking.” ~Agnes De Mille

What song are you going to dance to? Leave me a note and let me know!

All morning, on my walk to the bus, my wait for the bus, and my ride on the bus I was humming. People may have thought I was crazy, but that’s the trick to make sure no one sits next to you :). “Creating spaciousness through joy, even on the MTA” lol.

“I got a Feelin” and “Party in the USA” are a couple of my faves, too! Did you ever see the video of the Canadian college students, all one take, doing a lip dub through their student center? Its pretty awesome http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVyvATafORM

Wow, Queenie! This post gave me the inspiration I didn’t even know I was needing!

Just reading the lines, “You deserve this moment for yourself. Dancing will rejuvenate your cells, help your blood flow, and will send light and love to those areas of your body that needs a divine and magic touch,” made good energy flow through my body!

I can’t wait for Patrick to get back from India so we can talk about this post. Dancing is what helps him to stay so balanced and happy, and he’ll be thrilled you’re getting the word out!

It also brought back great memories from after the Save Daniel fundraiser, when all of the guests left and TT turned Marc’s living room into a dance floor when Miley came on! It’s only after reading this post that I realize how therapeutic that was when we needed it most. I love my partners!

Hey Queenie – I love this post!! I am all about having a “happiness playlist” to queue up when I need a boost. Dancing is the *best* – one of my favorites is Mary J. Blige’s “Just Fine.” Thanks for the reminder to get my groove on! Take care – Stacey
