How Was Your Weekly Ride?

by Queenie on December 10, 2010

I don’t know about you but this week  felt like a roller coaster ride for me. I went from working in my classroom, coaching in the evenings to meetings and other appointments. Whew!  I can’t believe how fast it went.Tell us about your ride this week. Here is how my week looked:

Uphill Climbs

Exhausted- I had so much to do this week I felt zapped trying to get it all done and not disappoint anyone. I’m really glad that this week is over.

Connecting with Friends- I had a really difficult time contacting Patrick, so that was really frustrating but he finally called me after weeks of being disconnected from me. I also went to the end of the year celebration at church and caught up with a lot of my friends.

Coasting Downhill

Report CardsI finished my report cards four days early. (Applause) It felt so good  to complete the progress reports before the due date. It’s not easy to capture the essence of a child in about 350 words but anytime I am doing progress reports my goal is to convey to the parents that I know and see their child in all of their greatness.

Creating a Mummy Business- One of my clients had an exciting homework assignment. She had to create a mummy business replete with business name, slogan and unique selling point. It was a nice break from inequalities and algebraic equations.

Debbie Allen’s Hot Chocolate Nutcracker- Yesterday I went with my entire school to UCLA Royce Hall to see the student production of The Hot Chocolate Nutcracker. The dancing, customs and the idea of traveling around the world from my seat was amazing. One aspect of the show that made me smile was this little boy, I mean he had to be  about six years old but he was working his dance moves like a little Patrick (smile.) I thought that it was cool that his parents recognized his love and ability to dance at such a young age. I  could tell from the  way that he was dancing that he really loved it.  I also liked seeing all the schools from the city share the same cultural experience.

The Uphill Climbs
-There have been plumbing problems in my apartment.
-I’ve been wrestling with a balance of productivity and rest when I’m not feeling so hot.
-I’ve been feeling sad that someone I love is having a hard time, and I don’t know how to help.

Coasting
-Patrick asking Queenie, “Do you feel like a princess?” when she was describing a new dress to us, and Queenie answering, “More like a Radiant Queen!”
-My family and Pammy have been amazingly supportive.
-Helping a colleague with his work supporting one of his kids that has cancer. He’s doing all he can to help this family, and I’m glad that my experience with Baby Daniel is supporting other kids and families that are handling tough situations.
-The kids I’m working with are doing such amazing things, and I’m so happy for them. I’m really please that they’re able to use the tools that I’ve given them to be successful.
-Incorporating things I learned at the Playground that are really helping my clients.

The Uphill Climbs –
-Too much noise and not being able to get enough sleep. Then being cranky all day.
-Cold weather!
-I ripped my favorite coat. 🙁
-Messing up on some personal paperwork.

Coasting
-Some presents I bought myself came in the mail. A stunning hand-blown glass necklace that my friend from New Orleans designs. And cozy, adorable slippers and fingerless gloves from Laura’s shop.
-I got to eat lots of delicious tomato soup and grilled cheese this week.
-I love all the holiday decorations in Santa Monica.
-Gaining some clarity on an issue that’s caused me a lot of worry in the last few years.

Uphill:
* Mentally preparing myself for my visit home to see the family.
* Financially preparing myself for the visit! That means staying home while all my friends are out and about.

Coasting:
* A few customers at work who have been very generous for the holidays!
* Getting a Christmas card from my brother and his disgustingly cute family which made me really happy.
* Paying off my Macy’s card so now I can do a little holiday shopping before I go North… (so next week “paying off my Macy’s card” will be on my Uphill list)
